LANDWIRT VINEYARD was established in 1982 by Charles Byers and Gary Simmers, who teamed superior vines with optimal setting and cultivation expertise to produce award-winning vintages of Virginia wines. Charles is a lifetime member of the Vinifera Wine Growers Association and a pioneer in the growing of vinifera species in Virginia. Gary provided the site, which was perfect for the noble plants.The vineyard's 1400-foot elevation, steep-hillside location, and southern exposure have fulfilled the promise of providing the ideal conditions for the vinifera species from which Landwirt Vineyard wines are produced.
